Former Grays Harbor Volleyball Alum, Bria Buchanan, earns Honorable Mention All-American Honors

Bria Buchanan, a junior middle blocker for the Antelope Valley Pioneers, earned Honorable Mention All-American Honors for an incredible season on the court this year. She was also selected as an All-California Pacific Conference first team recipient and was named All-Conference Newcomer of the Year after leading the Pioneers with 99 total blocks while ranking second on the team with 305 kills (2.6 per set).  Buchanan also led the Cal-Pac in hitting percentage (.271) and ranked third in total blocks.

Head Coach Nick Ferry had this to say about Bria, "We are so incredibly proud of Bria and the honor she has received. This award is a product of Bria's character.  She is an incredibly hard worker, a positive teammate, and an outstanding leader.  Her love for the sport and her energy can be seen from a mile away.  This is not the end for Bria either because we know that her hard work and dedication this off-season will propel her game even further going into next season."

Before transferring to the University of Antelope Valley, in Lancaster, California, she was a two year starter for the Chokers. Bria Buchanan came to Grays Harbor College from Las Vegas, Nevada. She is the all-time kills leader for the Chokers with 909 total kills.

She capped off an incredible career at Grays Harbor with 500 kills in her sophomore year, earning her 1st-Team All-Conference honors and was chosen as a Sophomore All-Star. She also earned MVP for the Volleyball team and was selected as the Grays Harbor College Female Athlete of the Year.

"We are so proud of Bria and her accomplishments at UAV," said head coach Christine Nelson. "We knew there was something special about Bria when she walked into the gym here at Grays Harbor. She brought an energy and excitement to our program. We knew she had great things ahead of her."
