A ceremony was held last Friday at Yakima Valley College to honor long-time Yaks head volleyball coach Al Rogers.  A memorial paver was added at the college's clock tower in the court yard.  Family, friends, co-workers and the volleyball community of Yakima were in attendance.

Al started coaching at YVC in 1978 and was named head volleyball coach in 1988, a position that he served until his passing in 2016.  During his tenure, he received many awards including being named NWAC East Region Coach of the Year in 1995, 2010, and 2013. His teams won NWAC East Region Championships in the 1989-90 and 1990-91 academic years and he led YVC to 15 NWAC Championship Tournament appearances. He was the 2001 recipient of the Wilber H Peck Referee Emeritus Award from USA Volleyball and the 1988 recipient of the Glen G Davis Award by USVBA for referee service to the game of volleyball. In addition, Al participated in the 1984 Olympics as a line judge and served as the head official of the 1983 US Olympic Festival. two young children looking at the paverimage of crowd on hand at the memorial.
