Spokane track & field alum Williams sets high mark at Oregon Relays Courtesy: Idaho Athletic Media Relations EUGENE, Ore. – Idaho’s men’s and women’s track and field teams put together another solid weekend’s worth of performances at the Oregon Relays on Friday and Saturday, which were highlighted by Elvie Williams’ NCAA top-20 mark in the long jump. Williams, a senior and returning All-American in the long jump, won the event with a leap of 25-0¾ (7.64m), which was eight inches better than second place and is tied for 19th in the NCAA this season. After not competing during the indoor season, Williams appears to be regaining his timing. He also took fourth in the triple jump on Friday with a leap of 48-5½ (14.77m). “Elvie was amazing today,” Idaho co-head coach Yogi Teevens said. “There was a big crowd right in front of the long jump area that got really involved in his jumps. He just stepped up and competed in a really big way.” view full article

Track and field continues to show improvement
Treasure Valley's Noble and Mt Hood's Sims crowned NWAACC Multi Event Champions Walker went into the day leading the field with 3475 points and continue to hold the lead until the pole vault (third event of the day) where Noble's winning vault of 4.5m (14' 9.16") was 200 points better than Walker's performance. The pole vault dropped Walker into third behind Lane freshman Kevin Godfrey, who scored the second best vault at 4.4m (4' 5.22"). Walker pulled back into second in the following event, javelin, with the second best throw of 44.35m (158' 7.54") just short of Lane freshman J.J Rosenburg's toss of 49.33m (161' 10.12"). Noble led Walker by 115 pts going into the final event, 1500m, but left no doubt about the championship when he blew away the field with a winning time of 4:19.96, nearly five seconds faster than the 1500m runner-up, sophomore Tim Armstrong of Spokane who finished third overall. On the women's side, Mt Hood sophomore Crystal Sims led the competition in points from start to finish both days to take down the Heptathlon Championship. Sims finished in the top three in six of the seven events to earn 4305 points overall, 182 more than Spokane sophomore Taylor Cook who took second. NWAACC Track and Field Athletes of the Week #7 Male Track Athletes of the Week Meet: Spike Arlt Invitational Coaches' comments: Ran the race most of the way solo and won by a 1:00 also broke the meet record by 40 seconds Matt Romey, Mt. Hood, Sophomore Meet: Lewis & Clark Invitational Coaches' comments: Matt has been shaking off a little rust but is now beginning to run fast again. Though the results indicate he got 4th in the Pioneer open, he blew his heat away and was running by himself. I have mentioned it several times…the men’s 800m at NWAACC is going to be HOT. Romey concluded his meet by running a 48.7ish anchor leg on a season PR relay performance. Another coach wrote, “This is a really good time for him.” Male Field Athlete of the Week Meet: Spike Arlt Invitational Coaches' comments: Comments about athlete’s performance(s): Both were new PR’s (Discus-8’ PR, SP-1’ PR) and we are really impressed w/ Griffon as he played basketball and has only been out for a month. He is the new NWAACC leader in the Discus. Female Track Athlete of the Week Meet: Lewis & Clark Invitational Coaches' comments: Catherine took about a second off of her hurdles time for the year; she won the 400m in the pioneer open with a good time; she competed well in the heptathlon earlier in the week; and she ran huge in the meet winning 4x400m Relay. Catherine is very versatile and is on the verge of improving her marks to the next level. Another coach wrote, “She won both the 200 and 400 at the Lewis and Clark Invitational”. Female Field Athlete of the Week Meet: Lewis & Clark Invitational Coaches' comments: Dianne broke our school record in the women’s Triple Jump by over a foot. She placed second in the event, just getting beat by 1 cm. Another coach wrote, “Strong mark for NWAACC right now.”

NWAACC Track and Field Athletes of the Week #5 Week 5—April 10, 2009 MALE TRACK ATHLETE Coach's Comments: Very strong marks. I’m excited to see this NWAACC 800m at the championships. Another coach commented, “ Spencer walked away from the Willamette Invitational with two personal bests and conference leading times in the 1500 and 800. Despite being a little disappointed with his performance in the 1500 Spencer bounced back with a nearly two second PR in the 800 in his first effort at that distance this season. He is big time talent and is very coachable. Look for big things the rest of the spring. Spencer has demonstrated the qualities of a high caliber athlete and teammate since joining the team at Lane. He brings positive energy to each practice and is extremely easy to work with. MALE FIELD ATHLETE Coach's comment: Placed second out of thirty athletes, leading the NWAACC, has been a consistent, steady performer. FEMALE TRACK ATHLETE Coach's comments: The 5000 mark was a :35 second PR and leads the NWAACC by :70 and her 800 mark the next day was also a PR. Another coach commented, “I was thoroughly impressed by how Brittnee ran in the 5000 at Willamette. I think she pr’ed by 42 seconds or something along those lines, which is basically ridiculous. I heard she said prior to the race she was going to break 18 for Coach Erik Anderson. She proved his influence and presence is still very prevalent. FEMALE FIELD ATHLETE Event: Pole Vault Mark: 11’9.75 (3.60m) Coach's comments: This is a school record and we anticipate her breaking it a couple more times this season. She had an awesome attempt at 12’1.50” (3.70m) where she cleared it but brushed it on the way down. Also, she tore up the 3rd leg of the 4x100m relay and ran strong in the 100m hurdles (almost falling about midway and still running sub 16). Another coach commented, “Terra won the pole vault and finished 3rd in the 110m hurdles at the Shotwell Invite.”

NWAACC Track and Field Athletes of the Week #4 Male Track Athlete of the Week| Coaches' comments: On a cold wet day in Shoreline, Mitch set a new personal record by taking more than 18 seconds off his previous personal best in the 5,000m. The team’s captain, Mitch has consistently been one of the hardest workers in the off-season and that work has continued to pay off in his performances on the track. Male Field Athlete of the Week Female Track Athlete of the Week Coaches' comments: Won the 400 meter dash for the 3rd week in a row and anchored the 1600 relay to first place. Won both races w/ big finishes over some good competition vs. Gonzaga, Whitworth and UPS. She also has over a 3.0 accumulative GPA. Female Field Athlete of the Week Coaches' comments: Ashley won all three events at the Buc Scoring Meet helping the women defeat Whitworth and UPS. The Hammer mark broke a 7-year old school record plus she is now leading all three throwing events on the NWAACC performance list. More amazing is that she just had a cast removed from her throwing arm last week before the meet. She has a 3.0+ GPA and has signed a full ride with Wyoming!!!!

NWAACC Track and Field Athletes of the Week #3 Male Track Athlete of the Week Coaches' Comments: An absolutely incredible time for the steeple in March and then throw in the fact that he won by :22 seconds over athletes from Whitworth, WSU, and WWU plus it was his first steeple ever with no real steeple practice as we have had snow on the ground all winter. Male Field Athlete of the Week Coaches' Comments: Scott is consistently vaulting at a high level. Lane’s Pole Vault program will be even more impressive if the other vaulters they have competing unattached start representing the college. Another coach wrote, “Scott improved his lifetime best to 15'07” on Saturday, placing third overall. He had a high school pr of 14'07”.” Female Track Athlete of the Week Coaches' Comments: Though I did not actually have the opportunity to see this performance I was pleasantly surprised to see the results. This is a great mark. Another coach wrote, “Very good in May so even more impressive in March.” Female Field Athlete of the Week Coaches' Comments: This is a very good mark at our level for any part of the season. This was a lifetime PR as well as a 2 foot season PR.

NWAACC Track and Field Athletes of the Week #2 Male Track Athlete of the Week Meet: NNU open Male Field Athlete of the Week Meet: Mt Hood Saints Open Coaches' Comments: Tyler is 2-0 on the year in the Hammer, having set the Lane school record a couple of weeks ago with a 187’ foot toss. He threw 172-06 in the Hammer at Mt Hood to win by more than 14 feet. Tyler also picked up a near NWAACC qualifier in the discus, by placing third with a 131’ toss Another coach wrote “That is a great throw this early in cold weather.” Another coach wrote, “Though there were quite a few good performances this meet, this mark stood out from the rest as it is a very lengthy throw this early in the season. I have not seen many other people in our conference this year throwing close to this.” Female Track Athlete of the Week Meet: Mt Hood Saints Open Coaches' Comments: The times are decent for this part of the season but what has impressed me is her competitive nature. In all of her performances thus far, she has come in first in all of her heats. Female Field Athlete of the Week Meet: Mt Hood Saints Open Coaches' Comments: Rocksi was in my mind the overall meet performer having come away with two first and one third place finish in the three events she competed in. She is coming off of a rupture Achilles injury from last season and has work extremely hard to get back to her pre-injury form. She also has a 3.61 GPA!
