Isn't it amazing how one person's arrival can change an entire life?

For Tom Pappas, it was the arrival of two people. In particular, it was two blonde-haired beauties, both with a dizzying smile, that shook up Pappas' world and changed his perspective on everything. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The background to this story is familiar enough. In 2004, the University of Tennessee graduate went to the Athens Olympics the favored great-grandson of a Greek immigrant who was supposed to win the gold medal in the decathlon.

Photo of Bruce Burbank and Danica BatesGresham, OR - Lane Community College swept the NWAACC Multi-Event titles as Bruce Burbank took the Decathlon and Danica Bates won the Heptathlon.

Brubank and Clackamas' Joe Gobel battled back and fourth for the lead throughout the day. Gobel held an 134 point advantage going into the 1500 meter final event, an event that favored Burbank. Burbank cruised to a solid win earning 720 points to Gobel's 562 giving Burbank a 24 point overall lead and the Decathlon title while Gobel finished runner-up.

Hood's Amber Glunt. Glunt moved up from fourth yesterday through steady competition throughout the day and a first place finish in the 800 meter final event.

Spokane sweeps Track & Field Championships
2007-05-25 17:18:08

GRESHAM, ORE- For the third consecutive year, the Spokane Sasquatch have swept the men's and women's team title at the NWAACC Track & Field Championships.

The women cruised to victory over second place Mt Hood winning by 75.5 points. The result for Mt Hood is their best placing since they took second to Spokane in 2002. For the Saints' success, Head Coach Matt Hart was named the women's Coach of the Year.

Going into the final day the Lane men were leading Spokane 93-79, but that lead was not enough to hold off Spokane. Spokane's depth in the field events made the difference for the Sasquatch. The Spokane throwers scored at least three people in all throwing events often all beating out their Lane counterparts.

Mt Hood's Amber Glunt was the meet's High Point Athlete and was also named the Outstanding Track Athlete. Glunt won the 400, 400m Hurdles and was second in the 100 and 200.
