BMCC setter Samantha Odren was named the tournament MVP

Gresham, OR -- Top-ranked Blue Mountain drew first blood with a 25-22 opening set win over second-ranked Olympic before the Rangers retaliated to draw even with a 25-21 win of their own.

Kind of like what happened in the regular season where the two power houses split a four match series with two wins each.

Olympic (46-6) had only lost 26 sets to their 129 set wins while Blue Mountain (42-5) entered the title match winning 119 sets to only 30 set losses.

Both teams battled back and forth to extra set points in the third with the Timberwolves coming out on top 27-25.

BMCC then put on the finishing touches with a 25-21 fourth set victory and a championship celebration.

Tournament MVP setter Samantha Odren set up 48 kills with Kendra DeHoog, Kensey Mix and Sierra Linke registering 14 kills, 12 kills and 11 kills respectively. Piper Cantrell led the defense with 25 digs with Linke (17) and Odren (14) adding another 31. Crystal Schmidt (5), Mix (5) and Courtney Klein (4) combined on 14 of Blue Mountain's 20 blocks.

For Olympic, KC Fossum and Taylor Burnett tallied 15 kills apiece with Nicole Diehl adding 11 more. Danielle Chu also picked up 10 on her match best 50% kill efficiency. Setter Ashlee Trane had a match high 50 assists. Defensively, Burnett turned in a team high 16 digs with Jordyn Nickolson, Fossum and Alexia Elliott-Free also finishing with double-digit dig figures. Fossum also chipped in 5 blocks.

The title represents Blue Mountain's third volleyball championship and their third in the last four years under fifth year head coach Dave Baty.

The runner up finish is Olympic's first ever placing at the championship tournament. For her accomplishments in turning around the fledgling program, fourth year head coach Beth Donnelly was named NWAACC Coach of the Year by the league.
