George Smith has been involved in community college athletics for 40 years. He began his career at Bellevue Community College in 1973 under the tutelage of Frank Bosone. George has been at Edmonds CC since 1979 where he has served as Financial Aid Director, Athletic Director, Dean of Students and Vice President of Student Services.

During Smith's tenure as Athletic Director (1982-1989), EdCC teams won five division titles and three NWAACC championships (two in baseball and one in basketball). In total, EdCC had twelve teams place in the top 6 of NWAACC championships with Smith running the athletic department.

Smith has also served the NWAACC as a Northern Region Commissioner and Region Chair and for the past two years he has represented the WSSSC as a member of the NWAACC Executive Board. Smith has been a long time advocate for student-athletes and will retire in August 2013 after 40 years of service.
