Michelle Miller takes reins of Olympic Ranger Volleyball
Olympic College Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Michelle Miller as their next Head Volleyball Coach. Coach Miller was born and raised on the Olympic Peninsula, attending high school at Bainbridge High. She helped lead the Spartans to three consecutive state tournament appearances. She was named Co-Player of the Year by the Kitsap Sun her sophomore year and second-team All-State her senior year. She went on to play at NCAA Division I University of New Mexico until she was sidelined by injury.
Miller’s first head coaching position was at 19 when she led a high level 13-1 New Mexico Juniors squad. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of New Mexico in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Education with a focus on middle and high school ages. After moving back to Kitsap, she joined OPVBC, where she has served as a coach at every age group U12-U18. She has also coached JV and Varsity high school teams at Bainbridge and Central Kitsap.
“I am excited and honored to be joining Olympic College volleyball,” shares Miller, “I grew up in Kitsap County and returned after college which makes this all even more special. Having volunteered with this program for many years, I have been able to see firsthand the potential that Ranger Volleyball has. I am most excited to work with this group of young women and begin recruiting for the upcoming seasons. I look forward to the challenge of raising the bar for our players and program.”
“Michelle will be a positive addition to our athletic department,” shared Athletic Director Barry Janusch, “She is respected by the local volleyball community and brings a wealth of experience to our program. Michelle has coaching connections throughout the Northwest which is so important for this position.”
