12:30 PM 6:30 PM 8:00 PM Bellevue Assistant Baird tabbed to head Skagit Valley Softball Bellevue Community College coach Dani Baird has resigned as assistant softball coach to take a head coaching position at Skagit Valley Community College. Baird served as an assistant coach at BCC the past two years and helped guide the Bulldogs to a North Region title and their school best record of 42-6 this past season. She works in the Mount Vernon area and the Skagit Valley opening provided a good fit for her.
"I had a great time coaching at BCC and really enjoyed working with the players and coaching staff" stated Baird. "While I am sad to leave BCC I am excited for the opportunity to coach in my home town and look forward to the challenge of being the head coach at Skagit Valley." Baird played her collegiate softball from 2003-2006 for the University of Oregon, helping her team earn a berth to the NCAA Regional Tournament in 2003, 2004 and 2005. During her time at U.O., she was named First Team Pac-10 All-Academic in 2004, 2005 and 2006 as well as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athlete all three years. In 2006, Danielle was voted to the Pac-10 Honorable Mention Team. "We were very fortunate to have Dani a part of this program for the past two seasons. She was a great addition to the coaching staff," said Head Coach Leah Francis. "Dani is a very good friend of mine and she will be missed. I understand her desire to coach in the community she lives and works and I believe she will do a great job there. With Skagit in our division, I am sure we will have some great battles with them in the years to come! I wish her nothing but the best and hope she can help turn Skagit Valley into an NWAACC contender!" NWAACC in the News - DePeel & Santos signing announcements DePeel signs with Lewis-Clark State College Santos signs with Boise State University Softball All-Tournament Team 2008 NWAACC Softball All-Tournament Team MVP - Carri O Neil, Lower Columbia Hayley Ridout, Lower Columbia Red Devils make it three consecutive softball titles The Devils got on the board first in the third inning when Kayla Vickaryous got to third base on a Camy Way single then stole home to make it a 1-0 ball game. Mt Hood answered with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth when Bryttny Kreshka hit a RBI single to score Brittany Martin and Tasha Maier. Lower Columbia loaded the bases in the fifth, but Mt Hood's Lauren Hadenfeld managed to escape disaster only giving one run on Carrie O'Neil's RBI single that scored Samantha Petrich. LCC added another run in the sixth when Anna Owen nailed a double and Petrich followed up with a single to score Owen and give the Devils a 3-2 lead. With only three outs remaining Mt Hood needed to put something together to stay alive and Kreshka answered the Saints faithful with a homer to knot the game 3-3 to send the game into extra innings. The Saints again found the bats in the top of the ninth when Chanie Norbury singled then advanced to second on an error and Martin singled to score Norbury. Kristin Anderson then connected on a single to score Martin to give Mt Hood a 5-3 advantage. Haley Ridout devastated the Mt Hood contingent in the bottom of the ninth when she blasted a walk-off grand slam to end the game 7-5. Mackin's efforts throughout the season and tournament also earned him the NWAACC Softball Coach of the Year honor. [view championship bracket] Olympic takes Third Place Mt Hood answered in the bottom of the second when Brittani Martin scored on a RBI double by Tasha Maier to put the Saints within one. The Saints unsuccessfully loaded the bases in the fourth but the Rangers ace Quint managed to work out of the bind. Mt Hood broke the game wide open 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Kathy Cox scored on a double by Chanie Norbury and Martin nailed another double to score Norbury and Ashley Lokey. Olympic mounted a last gasp attack in the seventh getting a pair of runners aboard, but All-American Lauren HadenFeld finally shut the door on the Rangers' season. Walla Walla takes Fourth Place The Walla Walla Warriors were the first to light up the scoreboard when Lisa Hender scored on a sacrifice bunt by Amanda Potter. An error on the play gave Hender the green light to take home for a 1-0 Warrior lead in the second inning. Olympic's Amy Renfow nailed a RBI double to score Carolyn Edenboo in the third to knot the game one all. Edenboo then reached first on an error in the fifth and scored on a sacrifice fly to give Olympic all they needed in a 3-1 win. 2008 Softball All-Stars and All-Americans announced The 2008 NWAACC Softball All-Stars and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American lists have been announced. Spokane (22-6, 30-14) and West Champion Pierce (28-2, 36-10) trade places in the seventh and eight spots. view poll Mackin surpasses Fiskum for most NWAACC softball coaching wins By Rick McCorkle In his 16 seasons as head coach of the Lower Columbia College softball program, Tim Mackin's Lady Devils have claimed a conference-record nine NWAACC Softball titles, including an amazing run of six straight during 1999-2004. On May 3, Mackin earned another distinction when his Lady Devils won a conference-record 576th game under his watch with an 8-0 victory over Clark College in a Southern Division contest at Hudson's Bay High School. After the game, Mackin received a bouquet of balloons from Cam and Kristi Hanna, parents of LCC player Jessi Hanna, and posed for pictures with the team. Mackin's 577-135 record (.810 winning percentage) moved him past former record holder Paul Fiskum, who led Clackamas College to a 575-213 record (.730) and eight conference titles in 19 seasons (1987-97, 1999-2006). Fiskum earned his mark while coaching in 788 games, while Mackin reached the milestone in 710 contests. Mackin, the director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Kelso, Wash., began coaching at LCC in 1993 after a stint as head coach at Mark Morris High School in Longview. He led the Lady Devils to their first NWAACC title in 1994, and after the run of six straight crowns, LCC is the two-time defending champ going into the conference championships during May 16-18 at Portland's Delta Park. Prior to his coaching career, Mackin was catcher for legendary pitcher Eddie Feigner as a member of the "King and His Court" fastpitch softball team. During his time with the barnstorming softball team, Mackin once hit 321 home runs during a 220-game season that featured games in the United States, Australia and the Bahamas. Wenatchee Valley & Mt. Bellevue (6-0, 10-2), Chemeketa (1-1, 8-4) and Highline (0-2, 9-9) complete the top eight. view poll South Puget Sound Community College Fastpitch Coach Resigns Olympia, WA. - Matt Loes, the head coach of the South Puget Sound Community College Clippers fastpitch team for the past ten years, has resigned. He leaves to become the head coach of the Olympia High School fastpitch program. Loes came to the college in 1997, spending one year as an assistant before taking over as head coach. Under his guidance, the Clippers won their division in 1998 and 2006 and earned three appearances in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) championship tournament. The 2006 team placed seventh in the tournament and set a new single-season home run record for collegiate fastpitch with 135. During his tenure at the college, Loes compiled a record of 217-186, and 37 of his players were selected as NWAACC all-stars. South Puget Sound will begin its search for a new coach and hopes to have one in place by the end of fall quarter. Baseball & Softball Sophomore Showcase Results The 2007 Sophomore showcases for baseball and softball took place this past weekend. The baseball showcase was held at Lower Columbia's Story Field in Longview, Wa. and the softball games were at Portland's Delta Park East complex. Gators Hire Dillinger for Fastpitch Green River athletic director Bob Kickner announced the hiring of Scott Dillinger to the head coaching position for GRCC fastpitch. Scott Dillinger comes to the swamp after spending the spring as the head coach at Eastside Catholic HS where he led his team to three tournament wins with a district berth. Coach Dillinger has worked in high school athletics for the past 24 years coaching a variety of sports including thirteen years as a football assistant, eight years as a head coach in baseball, sixteen years in basketball (six as a head girls coach), and five as a head coach in golf.
"We are very pleased to have Scott join our staff," said Kickner. "After a lengthy search process, I am thrilled to find a coach with the enthusiasm and the experience to support a program in need of a boost. He has a plan to make our program competitive and our job is to give him the resources necessary to work the plan. I am looking forward to watching the team develop under his leadership."
Dillinger attended Muskingum College, Ohio University, and Everett CC. An outstanding baseball player in his own right, Scott pitched for Ohio University in 1981. He resumed his playing career in 2004, and continues to play at a high competitive level on two teams in the Puget Sound Senior Baseball League. He set a league record last year in the PSSBL with 63 RBI in 26 games, and will make his fourth trip to the MSBL/MABL World Series this November. "I am excited to take my career to the collegiate level," stated Dillinger. "I believe with my passion for the game and my ability to locate outstanding talent, we can turn Gator fastpitch into a regional power in the NWAACC." Scott is married to Rita and has two married sons and three grandsons. Clackamas CC's Renee Santos featured in Portland Tribune PORTLAND, ORE- Clackamas Cougar pitcher Renee Santos was recently featured in the Portland Tribune. The newspaper outlined her outstanding first-year at Clackamas. Wisegerber to head CBC Softball PASCO, WASH- The Columbia Basin College Athletic Deparment announced the hiring of Eric Wisegerber as its new Head Softball Coach. Wisegerber will succeed Kelly Richards who resigned to further his career goals with the Hanford Fire Department. Wisegerber was the Head Coach at Southridge High the past seven years and Naches Valley High three years previous. He has several years experience coaching college level softball players during the summer under Richards. "We are excited to bring a young coach with enthusiasm and a history of success. Eric has already been around our program for a long time and has experiernce coaching at a high level." -Scott Rogers, CBC Athletic Director.

Softball All-Tournament Team Delta Park East, Portland, Ore. - The All-Tournament Team for the 2007 NWAACC Softball Tournament have been annouced. Lower Columbia's freshman shortstop Jessi Hanna was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player and Head Coach Tim Mackin was named the tournament's Coach of the Year. Kathy Cox, Mt Hood Lower Columbia Claims Ninth Softball Championship For the Cougars, the game marked their third of the day to get to the championship game. Earlier they defeated fourth-ranked Wenatchee Valley 4-0 and top-ranked Mt. Hood 5-1. Clackamas opened the scoring manufacturing two runs in the second inning, but the Devils answered in the 4th inning off a 2-run blast by Hayley Ridout to tie the game at 2-2. Red Devils outfielders Courtney Matthews and Tiffany Coates sparked the Lower Columbia defense saving possible Cougar home runs with spectacular catches in the 5th and 7th innings. The championship marks the second consecutive time the two squads faced off for the title. Going into the contest, both clubs held eight NWAACC titles apiece. Katie King provided more in the sixth when she nailed a shot that just cleared the fences with two runners on as Clackamas went on the win 4-0. Cougar pitcher Renee Santos held the powerful Knight bats to just two hits on a shutout and notched ten strikeouts. Wenatchee Valley places 4th in the tournament and finished the season at 20-8, 2007 NFCA NWAACC All-Americans 2007 NWAACC Softball Championship- Games 21-27 Game 21 Summary Game 22 Summary Game 23 Summary Spokane ends their season 16-12, 24-22. Game 24 Summary Bellevue finishes the season 31-5, 38-6. Game 25 Wenatchee Valley jumped out to an early lead and Ranzy York was solid on the mound as the Knights won the game 13-5 over the Chemeketa Storm. Tarn Potter scored three Knight runs on her home run in the 2nd. Sarah Mintzer tallied a solo homer for the Storm in the 4th. Wenatchee's Kelena Keffler and Lauren Brem both went 3-4 at the plate to lead the Knight batters. Wenatchee will play another game verses Clackamas on Sunday at 10am. Clackamas won 1-0 in a previous pairing of the two squads in yesterday's action. Chemeketa finishes the season 15-15, 29-22.
Game 26 Walla Walla opened the scoring in the first inning taking a 1-0 lead until Clackamas tied the contest in the 3rd inning to knot things up at 1-1. Clackamas' Jessica Solcum homered in the 4th to put the Cougars up 2-1. The Warriors answered in the 5th with a solo shot by league home run leader Sarah Rivera, but the Cougars countered in the same inning on a blast by Katie King to secure the win 3-2. Walla Walla complete their season at 20-8, 39-13. Game 27 Lower Columbia jumped out to a lead early on and despite Mt. Hood's tough offensive rallies led by Holly Rossman, Kathy Cox and Bryttny Kreshka, the Saints were unable to catch the Red Devils in the bottom of the seventh. Lower Columbia's Jessie Hanna was on fire at the plate with three home runs, the last in the top of the seventh. Brittany Warren also homered for the Devils in the third as the Devils make their way to the NWAACC Chmapionship game for the eighth time in the last nine years. Mt. Hood will play the winner of the Clackamas - Wenatchee Valley game tomorrow at noon.

Friday’s Results Mt Hood Tops Final Softball Poll Vancouver, WA. - The Mt. Hood Saints (25-5, 40-5) top the final poll in fastpitch softball. The Saints only losses this season have come at the hands of second-ranked Clackamas (23-7, 35-10) and fouth-ranked Lower Columbia ( 21-9, 33-11). Wentachee Valley (20-8, 35-12), on a nine-game win streak in the tough Eastern Region, moves up four spots to number three. Walla Walla (19-9, 36-16), Everett (33-3, 44-10), Bellevue (31-5, 36-10) and Chemeketa (15-15, 27-20) round out the top eight. The inductees will be honored at the 20th Annual Hall of Fame Banquet being held at the Bellevue Red Lion May 31st. Clackamas Heads Softball Poll The Clackamas ladies top the initial 2007 Softball Horizon Air Coaches' Poll. The Cougars (18-3), last year's runner-up in the NWAACC Softball Championships, had four first place votes and 60 points total. Walla Walla (28-10), the East Region leaders, come in at number two with one first place vote and 52 total. Bellevue, two games from a perfest season at 20-2 are third with one first place vote and 46 overall. New softball coach at Edmonds New softball coach at Clark VANCOUVER, WA- Clark College announced today that Kasey Powers will be the new Softball Head Coach for the 2007 season. Powers was formerly with the Skyview High School program and has coached several summer teams. Powers has a Bachelors degree from Eastern Oregon University and was a Financial Aid and Admissions Counselor. Currently, he is a teacher at Skyview HS.
Ringor becomes the Official Baseball and Softball shoe for 2007 VANCOUVER, WA- The Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges is proud to announce that Ringor is the Official Baseball and Softball shoe provider of the NWAACC for the 2006-07 season. The agreement stems from a long standing affiliation between Ringor and the NWAACC. In the past few years, Ringor has displayed their products at the NWAACC Softball Championship and provided many NWAACC teams with shoes, bags and clothing. Chemeketa's Chelsea Lally wins Golden Shoe Award The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced that nine student-athletes have been named winners of the 2006 adidas Golden Shoe Award for baserunning. Chemeketa's Chelsea Lally was named the NWAACC's Golden Shoe winner. Lally paced Chemeketa with 42 stolen bases in 43 attempts for a .977 stolen base percentage. Her efforts on the base paths played a key role in leading the second-year team to a 33-11 record and a 24-8 mark in South Division play.

In addition to the All-Star games which will be at 1:00 and 3:00, there will a Fall Classic Tournament. The Sophomore Showcase is in its third year and is being held at Delta Park in Portland, OR for the first time. The Fall Classic will feature 20 teams from the NWAACC including 2006 NWAACC Champion Lower Columbia. The games for the tournament will start in the morning and continue in the evening after the all-star games. Both clubs played some amazing softball and the game wasn't decided until Jessie Hanna scored on a Courtney Matthews RBI in the bottom of the seventh to break a three inning 2-2 dead lock for a 3-2 victory over the Clackamas Cougars.
